Until We Meet Again….

To Professor Hamon and all my Comp III classmates:

Here's to a hard working and caring group …and most of all to Professor Hamon who diligently gave us the guidance, motivation, and once in a while cracked whipped us into shape to the road of  becoming the polished, college level writers that he knew we were capable of !
We all have come away demonstrating a sample of what Professor Hamon has taught us in our renewed sense of rhetoric.
I wish you all Happy Christmas and may all your good wishes come true for coming 2014 New Year…Good Luck and GOD BLESS ~

Sublime Assessments

What a clever way to make sure students read the assigned chapters in their books, review videos to supplement the material in the chapters and answer questions and immediately submit to the wkly workshop page you then swing over to a another page of graphs and your fellow scholars who already did their homework and get a glimpse of what they wrote.  For me, I thought is was a brilliant start to the week with the material we are going to work on...Brava!!!  can i get  your autograph Professor?

WIKI..WOW..WIKI

I never thought I would have learned so much from a class videos and weekly workshops and actually like it!  A brilliant concept, it really reinforced the chapter readings with short concise videos and questions followed all online.  Assignments already done and submitted before the start of the week how brilliant!  My most memorable amusing video was the one on the "Red Herring effect" of argument writing, the animated figures were a good touch.  To put a dead fish in the trail of your opponent in order to distract you from the real objective…Wiki also served to keep me on track with upcoming assignments for the entire week in advance.

Google + and the "Drive"

Ok, I think the G+ of the classroom is utterly exceptional!  I already had a brief encounter with G+ but never was I so enthused about using it like when I started Comp III and than some!!!  It's like having our own little special club secluded away from all other groups and everyone else.  The Drive is another tool I had no idea could be so useful for writing APA papers, sharing, sharing..etc.. all the good stuff above!   Both classroom tools work in tune together with communicating our assignments, we comment on our own papers, comment on our own blogs, we can post what ever tickles own fancy on the G+ page and get to choose who views our postings.  Kinda like the our own eng2001 class FB!  We share, inform, express, we identify ourselves to one another in class through the cyber wires and voice who each of us really is about.  I truly enjoy the G+ and Driving in the classroom and will continue communicating to those of you even after Comp III,  if who are interested and certainly to Mr Hamon.  I'd be curious to see who uses this tool for other classes….Deeply grateful for these classroom tools, I have come away better skilled writer and more aware of my writing display and structure. YAY!

"STATS", true or false?

After viewing the TED videos on statistics really opened my eyes to the validity  of what stats are really about.   Although statistics  are generally based on probability, numbers randomness , chances are , we all depend on those numbers from the most scholarly sources available.   When I researched for essay on women in IT, I used these statistics with regards to getting estimates and probabilities on the amount of females in the computing field within a given region, global levels and given specified time frames.
My sources came from Harvard, Wall Street Journal and Dept of Labor, a government organization that fully trust staticians to submit numbers for guidelines.  Some of the highest skilled mathematicians and scholars are hired by those organizations who require representation of evidence that might come close to accurate numbers on probabilities  without the certainty and allow room for errors of logic.  Stats can reshape your way of thinking and your views of the world in general.

whew!...finally finished Doc3

Firstly,…THANK YOU to Prof. Hamon for allowing all of us the extra time to finish and revise our papers to enhance our grade point average.
Free to choose, free to write on whatever topic we are passionate about and it was definitely a refreshiing experience to say the least.  I believe it's the hardest and longest I've ever worked on topic that your supposed to have knowledge about.  After much research and long hours of reading and composing my thoughts to which writing method I should best express my passion and how I was going to approach this topic of women being in IT.   I wanted to convey a sense of importance and reflection my thoughts, my emotions in the rawest form of   my inner core I could best describe without sounding repetitive and mushy.  Not get bored with my paper but rather leave you wanting more!!
I wanted my female readers to know that technology is not just a profession but a life choice to be proud, a movement by which will make a historical mark and blaze trails for the future STEM graduates.  We all have the power to make it extraordinary or just ordinary.  I want to be up there with those few women who have made their mark and made a difference.   I am very proud of what I wrote.

Flipped is Fabulous!

Hello Everybody!
We are starting the week with blogs, more edits/peer reviews for Docs 2&3.  Making mention of the "flipped" capabilities of this class are so superbly useful and really working to my/our advantage for those of  us who have so many life events happening elsewhere.   Although you must be more discipline in this aspect without having the help of a teacher next to you but the positives fiercely outweigh the negatives of this classroom system of "flipped".  Not only is it convenient to work from any PC/Mac/iPad systems but gives me the freedom to work on the blogs postings, essays and other assignments  and submit to the teacher all in one shot at our own given time , anytime or anywhere without the pressure of class time constraints.  Being on a flipped schedule allows me to "burn the midnight oil"..lol.    I wish my other classes were like that, make an appearance in class, make a "face-to-face" check in with the class teacher and work on my assignments on the net, submit via email!     Just to remind myself, the next blog is about the statistics, based on the reading assignments for this week!.   Have a great week!!

Thanksgiving aftermath!

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?  Mine was peaceful yet my house was full of noise from re-runs of "FaceOff" and pay-per-view movie Superman-Man of Steel!  I cooked for my two young boys and my youngest helped me bake a chocolate cake!  We even put up our gold Christmas tree, the holiday was partly spent at home with my boys.   No "black friday" for me, I learned long ago that no item is worth the aggravatingly long hours in a long line, just to later see that what you were there for is already gone!   Noooo thank you, I would rather shop comfortably
on-line!   I mainly do Thanksgiving for my boys,   if it were not for them , the holidays would be just another day for me.     Christmas is just around the bend, can you believe that?  Where does the time go?  It's these end-year holidays  that make me reflect of what have we done this past year to progress or set-backs to overcome. That thought is distracting  but puts me in reflection mode on my purpose in this world.  I found more references and having a difficult time coming up with a conclusion for doc3.
I make everyday count and Im deeply thankful for family, and for being able to wake up to a new day!  I appreciate you guys too!  Wishing everyone a great week...Cheers!

HAPPY GOBBLE WEEK!

It's already Thanksgiving?  We are working on Doc3 and in the revise phase, and more peer reviews.  I think the best essays turn out after re-writes and repeated edits, it also makes for better writers as we all are!  As we approach the end of the semester I have learned better writing skills and the arts of persuasion and arguments! I definitely feel my writing skills improved 10 fold and become of aware of social issues.  I'll miss these blogs and communicating with class without saying a word.

I WANT TO WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY A HAPPY AND HEALTHY THANKSGIVING!

Ch.8: adjusting ideas to people and people to ideas

Rhetoric: often means empty or deceptive OR decorative or artificial language…That is a tough one to sift out!
I know all of you must have had a head scratcher on reading this weeks chapter…I sure did!  I had read it twice to get it.   Today we are reviewing each other DOC 3 …are you  ready?
Let's adjust to the idea that this is our last Doc of the semester and we are nearing the finish line of Comp III, and might as well give it our last drop of gas, cause this class was not easy guys.  We have to give ourselves a good pat on the back for making this far.  Good luck and HAPPY GOBBLE WEEK!

Girls! You NEED to be in I.T. (doc3)

Sooo what,... if it is a male dominated field!  Should there be more females in the I.T. job market?
I say heck YES!
There NEEDS to be more females in the Technology Programs..because:

  • My findings revealed that the men had first dibs over 20 years ago and signed on at the Universities while  we were at home taking care of the house and kids.   But look, we are in a new millennium and women have been gradually making their mark in the computing and technology fields.
  • I can name at least 4 vitally important reasons why women MUST be in the computing sector, aside from that women are better managers.
  • 1st, women who seek financial aid and college funding will find more options to pay for college courses in the Tech field (STEM) then any other program available so make sure to ask your financial aid officers to give you the run down on the "techies" bonuses for 'them' to pay you.
  • 2nd, Higher skills means higher pay girls! You could be shopping at Saks and not pay less!
  • 3rd, working conditions include lots of domestic and global traveling being put in the 5 star hotels and 1/3 of the work force is comprised of women therefore making you higher in demand in a better position to negotiate salary!
  • 4th, it would increase the qualified labor pool that the United States depends on to drive the innovation and product development in IT that is key to the U.S. economy!

DOC2: "Revise"

Revise:
Should Middle class Americans with Health Insurance support ACA?
Yes, Because the ACA helps cover those who are not insured  the shortage and prevents the insurance companies from ripping off those who don't prequalify and who  can't afford the plan.
Another notion  that needs clarification is that the opposite side of the ACA that the governemtl decide who lives and dies and where should we buy insurance. Another reason is that choice is built into the ACA with Health Exchanges which allow people to choose the providers and plans they want, and many states started implementing them already.

3rd DOC IS IN THE BLOC!

Hello Eng Classmates!
I got it! We have to write about what we are passionate about and what inspires us, what drives us to voice our opinions and what makes us shout from the rooftops…mine passion is "I.T."   I know,  I should be more passionate about getting a brand new pair of Christian Louboutin red bottom heels, right? Don't get me wrong I love a pair of Italian heels as much as the next girl…but I have to be well rounded and well knowledged in the field of "technology", Computer Science and Technology is what makes the world go around is what keeps all of us connected!   My Doc3 is .."Women in I.T: A Man Dominated Field" ..Look forward to peer review,  Good Luck to everyone!

DOC3:This time, it's an open field!

Prof. Hamon has just launched our DOC3 topic...and there is none!  Its' enitrely up to us to choose our own topic & apply the writing skills we have learned in the last two docs and use those vital elements in Doc3 for our topic of what we feel passionate about..  Me?  I have no idea yet , but Im thinking, at least I have the basic direction of where we are going with this paper.  Have to look at the angles of interest, implementing elements that will be relevant to find sources on, my purpose, persuade, who am I directing this topic to  that appeals to the reader!   Ill let you know later what Ill write about, my mind is going a mile a minute. putting on my thinking cap! good luck everyone!

Who said arguing was easy?

Another day, another week and then it's Thanksgiving…where does the time go? seriously!
Arguing your point to persuade someone of your ideas is deep and personal to say the least.   Reading Chapter 5  made me think, that verbal advice and questionnaires are considered valid forms of evidence!  There are difference between "strong claim, and "qualified claim" all by changing the words, from often vs. serious.  Oh well, onward we go and onto finishing out DOC2 for submission.
Good Luck Class…cheers!

DOC2: The more I read the more I find! grrr...

Hey everybody!
ACA…Obamacare…Health Care...it's all over the place and everyone is talking about it! …how could I have missed this topic before??    This subject eclipses all other news ….. Im writing like a bandit and the more research and read,  the more I find!  It's never-ending, New stuff keeps coming in, if it's not though CNN, it's Forbes, Colombia Journal, or my favorite Havard Business Review.  This topic is on COLOSSAL scale, if your as passionate as I am about this, you'll find that 1200 words seem like a droplets.
NO funny ideas Prof.Hamon..LOL… it's through these writing projects that I have learned to be more aware of my surroundings of our own country, updated in current events!..
I feel we all have a purpose to bring these issues to light as students, tap into the subjects that effect us the most.   Good Luck on your papers , Cheers!

ACA:Pres.Obama is sinking fast, but hopes we won't notice!

Hello Everybody!
Obama is sinking fast but probably hopes we won't notice!..
I watched President Obama say in an interview on Thursday that he is sorry that some Americans are being "forced" to change their health plans, when it was promised they would be able to keep them!  Forced , forced?
I thought this was the land of the free?, since when is the word "forced" being used regarding Health plans?    The more I research , the more I want to know!  What's going on and what will happen if we can't afford to pay this plan, I found out that it would be taken out of your annual tax returns.
This so called plan is loaded with "Fallacies"…
As noted by the Associated Press, did you guys know that the fine print of the bill has a "ClawBack Provision" allowing the government to go back and confiscate the corrected amount of money that is owed by stripping it from your annual Tax returns!   NO Joke!…tell me what you think of that?

Review on DOC2: ACA

TGIF!  Well, of us in CompIII it's like a Friday!    We are all going under the microscope with our "peer review"today for DOC2… the ACA (Affordable Care Act)  a.k.a "Obamacare" .   My research shows that it is basically standard of medical plan for those who can't afford private Health insurance.  It's a way to ensure that even low income people can afford Health coverage without leaving Hospitals and doctors in debt., someone has to pay the bill, right? Although the plan still has some discrepancies that need ironing out, at least it's a way to go to the doctors and not get dirty looks from the staff and get kicked to the back of the line and wait 3 hours for a 45 minute doctors visit..   Today is Peer review takes place and would be interesting to see what everyone in class came up with in their own words and their research sources they used.
See you guys in class… and have a fab weekend, cheers!

"Bib me"

Hey Everybody….  Today our DOC2 and class assignment were two in one.
We were assigned to write a "Annotated Bibliography about the Health Care Plan" and post it as a comment on the the Prof. discussion wall and then copy and paste the citation source to your Reference page of Doc2.    Reads like a alot but not really, in fact it was ok.
I have come to the realization that the APA citation format will live with us through the duration of our SouthU stay!   The manual way of doing my citing was swallowing up my time and needed to find the easier way to do it.     Prof. Hamon introduced me to bibme.org and to my utter amazement filling in the the blanks with your source info,   will automatically organize it into the proper APA citation format perfection!
I really get excited when I find something I feel compelled to share with the rest of the class that will help make things easier for all of us.    Thank you Professor….let me know how it works out for you all!
P.S. don't forget to share an online document on your google + page for this week.  I posted a link on from HBR on boosting your CV to nab your future job… cheers and have a great weekend!!

DOC2 Obamacare: Saving People Money?

Ok, I have to admit that I didn't expect that our next topic for our DOC2 project paper would be on such a contraversial topic.
What is it?  according  to useconomy.ask.com .. Affordable Care Act contains many provisions that aren't as well known. For example, it created the National Prevention Council that coordinates all Federal health efforts to  cut down on fraudulent doctor/supplier relationships. It also requires background checks of all nursing home nursesn and staff to prevent seniors abuse.
It also means Helath Insurance companies have to be accountable to you, if they spend too much money on overhead and not enough on medical care, you get a rebate.  As with 8 million Americans this past summer already did.
Ok, I really thought this was boring at first but it really is interesting to know  how this plan affects the nation.   The project requires us to write the pros and cons and why we think it is good or bad...right?
Oh well, Ill keep you posted as the week progresses.   I'll go see what my other class mates write about it.   Happy Obamacare Trails!

The Quotidien

Another week,  another assessment…. we'll be into the argument of writing and "deductive" reasoning
meaning writing which is solidly proven to be sound.   Ahhh…yes, we are also going to tap into what a Thesis is..my favorite learning.  Put simply a Thesis is a line in which you propose to write about..
other words a statement that says what your topics of discussion are going to be written about in a short beginning paragraph.   For me I find that a thesis statement guides my writing towards a better organized paper all together.  Keeps me on track of my discussion and serves as a reference.  It's like a bow tie on top of a box.   DOC 2 is making it's way unto our screens this week…Happy writing to you all!

The Art of Persuasion

Hello Everyone!
Hope your Saturday is awesome as mine is going!
Just had to write you about this incredible article I came across that is just up our alley and in tune with what we are ALL doing in class.  It explains what one must do in order to "persuade" the readers of your beliefs and reasoning in order to achieve what we want them to do for us.     We could ALL use help in doing this and what better way then to get the best advice possible then from the HBR (Harvard Business Review).   Prof. Hamon always tells us to be "concise and brief" with our writings in class and write like your talking directly to the reader.   Well, here is an article that will sharpen your written communication skills and to familiarize yourself with the basics of being able to handle the written and spoken word.  It is truly a gift to be able to express yourself verbally, as well as on paper or email.  If you fail to communicate your thoughts coherently , it leaves people unsure of what is expected of them.

Here is the link below and enjoy the article, hope it helps!  Let me know your thoughts!

Peer Review with a Sense of Purpose!

Peer review certainly opened my eyes to many aspects of what is expected on the essay paper.
A list was given and the markings were self explanatory to what score corresponded with what.
Unfortunately our group didn't score very good for the essay only had 3 paragraphs and was void of any significant elements that would justify a good score or called an official essay for that matter.
Peer review is good in any case, as it pinches the ideas that our thoughts and ideas are being read and pondered over.  Of course, it also ignites discussions, opinions and importantly established camaraderie  among fellow alumni and gives all of us a sense of purpose!

Go by the APA or the highway!

The entire period was devoted to ensure that all our essay group papers were in the proper APA format  (American Psychological Association) applied to our DOC1 paper.  A checklist was assigned which, admittedly, made things easier to ensure we all had all the makings of the perfect APA formatted paper before handing it in or we would "all" face returned papers with a non-returnable, irreversible zero!   So, all of in class were diligently checking off our list and checking it twice.   Writing 1k words on how networking can benefit college students in the classwork is a fairly daunting task, wouldn't you say?   I myself went thorugh countless of articles, read up on the yahoo, google various topics to research in order for me to grasp the real workings of how the networking powerhouses are vitally advantageous to the college students and Teachers alike!  So much information, so much to write and so little time to do it in.  Pleading my case to  how I can persuade the Professor to believe my reasoning for using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for school.
Should be a no brainer, right?   Im using a blog now for school assigments, isn't this a win-win situation for both student and teacher.   These serve as voices, as expressions of thoughts transmitted silently to tell the world you exist!     I wish everyone well on this paper, Happy writing guys...Have a "fantabulous" weekend everyone!!

3 heads are better then one

Working in teams has massive benefits like sharing different life experiences and applying those thoughts to the work we are doing and when the chemistry is right all the better!    Other teams were formed earlier on this week to critique our paper document which resulted in below then average grade level.   However, it was by "no" means  negative but with that said,  I found that the shared thoughts and ideas helped in guiding my writing into a better perspective of the Document for better understanding and less time wasted reading gibberish.   We were repeatedly told to put more "meat to the bones"...and so we did.    Second time around is always better.   We are "all" in it to win it.  CHEERS!

Blogging my way to an "A"!

Hello Classmates !
I just finished the workshop for wk 3 , and the videos are really informative, especially the one on the APA format.   The one on "inductive" reasoning was a bit confusing at first, had to replay it a few times to get the gist of it.   Hey, I got a thank you post on my G+ page from someone who used my link on "Purdue Owl"...It helped someone, YAY!!
Is it just me or did that question on "Obamacare" throw you off, seriously?
Ok, now did we have to answer those question on the workshop on "inquiry"..?  I did it anyway, just in case, better to be safe then sorry.   Assessment wk 3, 4 posts blogging, respond to fellow classmates on their blogs,  inquiry questions, read chapter 2, continue working on essay.....ahhh...did I miss anything on this list of work?  let me know guys....have a great weekend everybody!

3 major powerhouse networks for college

Hello !  Guess what I got started on the paper , you know, the one that has to be1k words and in collaboration with my other two wonderfully intellegent classmates.    Im writing about the 3 major social networks, facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter and how they can immensely benefit college students with their education, job searches, and just the vital importance of connecting with the world in general.   Although they maybe famously know for their social significance personally but will serve as social platforms to spring us to the next level of public recognition.  ....teacher wants our attention.. more later.

Here I am at 2am still trying to find information ...

Helene's Voice Notions: Here I am at 2am still trying to find information ...: Here I am at 2am still trying to find information on why we should use social networking in college.  This should be a no brainer right?.. ...

Networking tools...let me count the ways!

Up late ...and...

Here I am at 2am still trying to find information on why we should use social networking in college.  This should be a no brainer right?..
There are so many reasons and benefits to this argument that I don't know where to begin... I put it this way, Linkedin is a business like social network that ALL students need to build during college years. Facebook...oh yes no doubt, we know what this one is about and of twitter.  Twitter is great for short concise messages and wonderful to connect to you want in the field you want to work in.

I like the assignment but really time consuming... so much information don't know where to start and what to choose.   Gotta do what I gotta do. wish me luck guys!  (got the first 3 paragraphs down)

Being "Flipped" is marvelous!

Hello Everyone!
This is my very first time doing a "blog" and this is something I've always wanted to do anyway and here it is.  I 'm quite excited about how  the blog will develope through out this term.  This class will defintely benefit me in that you can do it from home and anywhere in world, so long as you have internet access.  Here is where the "flipped" aspect of this class comes in marvelously!   Cheers to you all and look forward to interacting in cyber space! LOL
